SUMMARY:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Specialist to join our dynamic team. The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for our organization, adhering to all relevant laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of payroll processes, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • PAYROLL PROCESSING:
    • Execute end-to-end payroll processing, including data entry, calculations, and verification of employee compensation.
    • Ensure accurate and timely distribution of paychecks or electronic transfers to employees.
  • COMPLIANCE:
    • Stay updated on federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations to ensure compliance.
    • Process payroll taxes accurately and submit relevant reports to government agencies.
  • DATA MANAGEMENT:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in the payroll system.
    • Handle any adjustments, deductions, or additions to employee salaries in a timely manner.
  • PROBLEM RESOLUTION
    • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in payroll records or employee compensation.
    • Address and resolve payroll-related inquiries from employees in a professional and timely manner.
  • REPORTING
    • Generate and distribute payroll reports to management as needed.
    • Assist in preparing financial and regulatory reports related to payroll.
  • COLLABORATION
    • Work closely with the HR department to ensure seamless integration between HR and payroll systems.
    • Collaborate with finance and accounting teams for accurate financial reporting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Understanding of accounting principles and the ability to reconcile various payroll transactions.
  • Knowledge of payroll administration for 401(k) and other employee benefit plans, garnishments, and worker’s compensation.
  • Prior experience in a high-volume, fast-paced payroll environment.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Exceptional work ethic, organization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and perform under multiple conflicting priorities with strict deadlines.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency when responding to inquiries.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain strict confidentiality.

Skills & Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of solid end-to-end payroll processing experience, including Time and Attendance systems.
  • Solid understanding of federal, state, and local tax laws, FLSA, and Wage and Hour requirements.
  • Familiarity with payroll regulations, such as meal and break rests, overtime, double-time, and termination of employment.
  • Multi-state tax experience is preferred.
  • Minimum two years’ experience with a large Human Resource Management System or payroll system.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
